Direct Answer

For dense ground clusters use the SOD stand-off dispenser, which players call overpowered with a large blast radius. Against ships and land targets use the LACM, which one-taps Land Destroyers, Aegis ships and warships. Against agile named aces use QAAM.

Pick the Weapon for the Target Type

Ace Combat 8 does not reward one universal missile loadout. Community consensus converges on three special weapons that cover the main situations you will face, and the right choice depends on what the mission is throwing at you.

Weapon Best against Why players use it
SOD (Stand-Off Dispenser) Dense ground clusters Called overpowered with a large blast radius, though it can be intercepted by CIWS.
SFFS Wide-area ground/ship carpet One-shots regular ships and landships; pairs with the F-15E and XSDBs.
LACM (Cruise Missile) Ships, land battleships, Mission 7 underground target One-taps Land Destroyers, Aegis ships and warships.
QAAM Agile named aces The reliable choice against Lux Lunae and Shadow 55.
SASM Wily fighters such as Shadow 22 Higher hit chance than QAAM against the most agile Su-57-type targets.
LASM Mission 19 land battleship heat vents Long range lets you line up a careful shot from afar.
SOB Mission 27 ocean-fortress platform One shot clears the platform and can trigger the call to surrender.
MGP Mission 11 Podarges Chews through the Podarge air units on replay.

SOD: For Packed Ground Targets

The Stand-Off Dispenser is the favorite whenever a mission piles targets into a small area. Players call it extremely overpowered because of its large blast radius, which lets it wipe out clusters in a single pass rather than picking off individual vehicles. It is the weapon you want for high-density ground sorties, and it is the one paired with Mission 27 Megafloat in MRP farming because it clears the cluster quickly.

LACM: For Ships and Land Destroyers

The LACM cruise missile is the answer when the target list is heavy on naval and armored ground units. Community reports say it one-taps Land Destroyers, Aegis ships, and all warships, and that it is especially strong against land battleships. The Su-57 is the airframe most often paired with the LACM, which is part of why that 550,000-MRP multirole stays useful across the campaign.

Use the LACM to remove the slow, high-value surface contacts that slow your grade down. Because mission grades reward speed, deleting a warship in one pass is worth more than circling to re-engage.

QAAM: For Agile Named Aces

When a sortie features a high-mobility named ace, QAAM is the go-to weapon. Multiple players report that QAAM is what humbles agile targets like Lux Lunae and Shadow 55, where ordinary missiles struggle to keep up with the target's maneuvering. This is the loadout to reach for during your Assault Record cleanup on Veteran difficulty, when the 31 conditional aces are actually spawning.

Mission-Specific Picks

Beyond the three workhorses, community loadouts call out specific weapons for specific sorties. In Mission 7, the LACM makes quick work of the underground target. In Mission 19, the LASM gives you the range to line up a careful shot at the land battleship's heat vents. In Mission 27, the SOB clears an ocean-fortress platform in one shot and can trigger the call to surrender. In Mission 11, the MGP chews through the Podarge air units. Against the wily Shadow 22, the SASM connects more often than QAAM, which players note can be dodged.

Why These Three Weapons

Across the campaign's 31 sorties, community consensus keeps returning to the same three special weapons because each maps cleanly to a target type. The SOD handles dense ground clusters, the LACM deletes slow naval and armored targets, and QAAM brings down the agile named aces that ordinary missiles cannot keep up with. There is no universal loadout, but there is a universal habit: read the target list before you launch.

Because these weapons are unlocked along the Aircraft Tree, reaching them is part of the same MRP plan as the aircraft themselves. Once you have an SOD attacker, an LACM multirole, and a QAAM fighter available, you can answer almost any sortie the campaign throws at you, including the 31 conditional named aces that only appear on Veteran difficulty. The LACM pairs naturally with the Su-57, and QAAM is what humbles agile targets like Lux Lunae and Shadow 55.

Building a Loadout

Match your aircraft role to the mission. Bring a multirole with the LACM for naval sorties, an attacker with the SOD for dense ground objectives, and a fighter with QAAM for ace-heavy missions. Because parts and special weapons are unlocked along the Aircraft Tree, plan MRP spending to open the weapons that fit the sorties you replay most.

Match the Weapon to the Sortie

The three weapons above cover the situations that come up across the campaign's 31 sorties. A mixed mission can swing between air, ground, and naval targets, so reading the target list before you launch is worth more than sticking to one favorite. If the sortie is heavy on ships, the LACM saves passes; if it is a tight cluster of ground units, the SOD clears it in one go; if a conditional ace is hiding in the mission, QAAM is the loadout that brings it down.

Because special weapons are unlocked along the Aircraft Tree, treat them as part of the same MRP spending plan as the aircraft themselves. Reaching the weapons that fit the sorties you replay most is often more valuable than buying another airframe you will barely fly. The right weapon also shortens the missions you replay for grades, MRP, or Assault Records, which compounds across the long campaign. Keep one aircraft configured per job: an SOD attacker, an LACM multirole, and a QAAM fighter.
